Are literary classics really fit for children?

Sadly, most kids today read only "so-called classics" that school requires them to read and before they are intellectually mature enough to understand what they are reading. Administrative choices like this don't foster more reading. Some so-called classics, while possibly entertaining and better than not reading, aren't classic literature.
