Another modern dancer Jiang endorses is New York-based Shen Wei, whose Folding revisited NCPA on Nov 12-13.
But he disapproves of Jin Xing, a pioneer in modern dance and now a sensation in the television talk show industry, for becoming "self-indulgent" while acknowledging the artistry of her early works. Her Shanghai Tango appeared early in this year's festival.

He is especially supportive of "square dance", a grassroots form usually practiced by elderly women in urban public spaces such as plazas and squares.
