Should bride prices be abolished?
Laowai2? (UK)
I don't know of any other country that has a bride price, most seem to have to pay someone to take their daughters. This was the case in England for the upper classes and even now it is traditional for the bride's parents to pay for the wedding. The Chinese tradition seems to be a compensation payment for the cost of feeding, clothing and educating a daughter who will not be providing for her parents retirement as traditionally a son would.
