Powerlifters continued to push limits Thursday at the Paralympic Games.
At the BUAA Gymnasium, Egypt won a gold and a bronze, dominating the event with five gold medals.
Sherif Othman broke the world and Paralympic record with his first attempt of 195kg before pushing the record further to 200kg on his second attempt and 202.5kg on his third attempt. Former world record holder Wang Jian from China was forced to settle for fifth with 180kg. Rasool Mohsin from Iraq won silver and Jung Keum-Jong from South Korea took bronze.
The men's 60 kg category saw Hamzeh Mohammadi from Iran lift 202.5kg to set a new Paralympic record. He broke a record set moments earlier by Russian lifter Ayrat Zakiev, who lifted 200kg. Egypt's Shaban Yehia Ibrahim won bronze.
