Swelling reservoir lets flood water go
The Xin'anjiang Reservoir, which is at risk of overflowing due to ongoing torrential rains, opens one of its floodgates to discharge water in Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, about 9:30 am June 21, 2011. The reservoir, built on the Qiantang River in 1959 with a maximum water-holding capacity of 21.6 billion cubic meters, opened three of its nine floodgates Tuesday. The operator of the reservoir, the largest in eastern China, had not been forced to discharge water from it since 1999. [Photo/Xinhua]
