Over 10 highways connecting Liaoning had been closed and about 100 long-distance buses had been called off services, the provincial transport bureau said.

The Taoxian International Airport in Shenyang, capital of Liaoning, announced to be closed, leaving all outbound and inbound flights canceled or delayed in Sunday morning.

The fog started to blanket most of Liaoning from late Saturday night with a visibility of less than 50 meters in some regions, the Shenyang meteorological center said.

Heavy fog also disrupted traffic Sunday in an eastern coastal city of Qingdao, Shandong province.

More than 1,000 passengers scheduled for 18 flights had been delayed at the city airport while 78 cargo vessels were stranded at the Qingdao seaport in Sunday morning.
