Hundreds of rural children had guardian angel

Zhang Jinglan, of Hefei, Anhui province, displays letters written to her by children she funded, on Jan 6, 2012. Zhang has helped more than 200 children throughout the years. After she retired as chairwoman at a provincial institution of People’s Congress, with a monthly pension of $565, Zhang had to recycle garbage to continue her support for more poor students in rural areas.
