At the end of 2006, the governments of Pakistan and China decided to rebuild Karakoram Highway. CRBC started the reconstruction project in February 2008 and is expected to finish by the end of 2013. According to CRBC, a total of 10,000 jobs have been created for Pakistani workers during the five-year construction period. The 1,224-kilometer highway connects Kashgar in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region with Pakistan's northern region.
