Tiexi wins UN Habitat prize

Tiexi district of Shenyang, Liaoning province has won the 2008 Demonstration Prize for the UN Global Best Livable Area Award on December 7. Also, Tiexi became the first district in the country to win this title, as previous winners were all cities.

Dr. Douglas, an official of UN Habitat praised Tiexi, saying that the district’s achievements are amazing, making a transition from an industrial base to an area suitable for habitation.

UN Habitat set up the Demonstration Prize for the UN Global Best Livable Area Award in 1989. China begins to declare the award since 1990 and has won the prize for 16 times by now.
