Updated: 2009-05-04 11:38 A ceremony announcing production of a large-scale humanities documentary entitled Cross Taiwan was held in Fuzhouon April 29. The television series is yet another cross-strait theme work made by the two sides to prove the Chinese mainland and Taiwan have the same roots. Cross Taiwan focuses on the history of Zheng Zhilong and how he arduously pioneered Taiwan from the end of the Ming Dynasty to Taiwan Retrogression in 1945, which lasted for 400 years. The Chinese government of the Qing Dynasty (1644--1911) was forced to cede Taiwan and the adjacent Penghu Islands to Japan in 1895 after losing a war with Japanese aggressors. China recovered Taiwanon October 25, 1945, marked by a ceremony organized byChina's Kuomintang government to accept the surrender of Japanese aggressors inTaiwan. The documentary will explore the close relationship between the Chinese Mainland andTaiwanin local customs, religion, migration, trade and economic areas during the special historical period. Pre-filming and post-production of Cross Taiwan will be completed in the first half of 2010 and broadcast to audiences through CCTV, Channel Television, the South East Satellite TV, and Taiwan TV.
