The first medical care centre for international patients in Shenyang is set to open in the second half of 2009. The new facility will be put into use at the beginning of October.

Zhang Chengpu, vice president of Shengjing Hospital at the China Medical University, told China Daily 90 professional staff members with high English levels in almost all major departments will be on hand to offer treatment for foreigners living in Shenyang.

Currently, the hospital can provide outpatient service and health check-ups at prices that comply with Liaoning Price Bureau standards.

A representative from the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCCC) said foreigners living in Shenyang greatly need a professional medical center, and spoke highly of the Shengjing Hospital at the China Medical University. When asked about reports that the EUCCC also contacted other hospitals to build the center, the rep declined to give any details.

According to the Shenyang municipal government, the number of expatriates living in Shenyang in 2008 reached nearly 10,000, with no professional medical center in the city to treat them.
