Fujian helps out Morakot-stricken Taiwan compatriots

Fujian Red Cross donated 1 million yuan to Taiwan through the Taiwan Red Cross on August10 for Typhoon Morakot post-disaster reconstruction.

The deadly typhoon resulted in severe property damage and loss of life. All social circles in Fujian donated to help Taiwan compatriots affected by Morakot.

The Fujian Taiwan Affairs Office called on people to donate on August 13. It also cooperated with the Fujian Economic and Trade Commission to have 10 residence building enterprises help build portable buildings in disaster-stricken areas.

The Xiamen Red Cross received 16.5 million yuan in donations from social circles and sent the first 15 million to the Taiwan Red Cross. Taiwan Associations in all parts of Fujian also organized donations, including NT$1,500 from Zhangzhou, 500,000 yuan from Quanzhou and 500,000 yuan from Fuzhou.

Xiamen Airline Company donated NT$50 to the Taiwan TVBS Culture and Education Fund to assist the central and south parts of Taiwan, which were harshly attacked by Morakot; it was the first enterprise in Fujian to donate.

Fujian Chaoda Group has been in contact with Kaohsiung county to transport mainland vegetables to disaster-affected areas in Taiwan. And a council in Xiamen raised 112,700 yuan for Morakot relief efforts and will continue to accept donations which they will regularly send to Taiwan.
