The Seventh Hubei Huangmei Arts Festival opens

Updated: 2009-09-17 16:30 The Seventh Hubei Huangmei Arts Festival is now underway. Speaking at the grand opening on September 16, famous author Yu Qiuyu called Hubei a trendsetter in the promotion of culture. "Although society is currently experiencing a time of transition, there are still a lot of people who care about our culture," he said. "Hubei is a great place. She is the home of Suizhou Chimes, the first beautiful voice to sound in our world. She's also the home of the country's first poet: Qu Yuan." Yu's works include Su Dongpo Breakout, which narratives tell the story of Su Donpo, a famous artist and poet of the Song dynasty. It tells of his struggles through depression while living in Hubei's Huanggang. He says just like how living in the area helped Su Dongpo, in today's times, it can still help revitalize one's spirit. The short ceremony at Wuhan Hubei Theater ended with a brilliant performance known as Li Siguang. The festival was jointly hosted by the Hubei Provincial Culture Bureau and the Huanggang Municipal Government. Seventh Hubei Huangmei Arts Festival will consist of a week of performances and expert commentary, and will end with the closing awards in Huanggang on Sept. 29th. |
