In 2009,CTMO sent its staff to Inner Mongolia, Tianjin and Zhejiang as well as SAICShenzhen Administration Institute to give lectures to local AIC officials, staff of agricultural authorities and agriculture-related enterprises, spreading legal knowledge about agriculture products trademarks and Geographical Indications, introducing the successful experiences, helping local people to properly use agriculture products trademarks and Geographical Indications to improve the quality, added value and market competitiveness of their agricultural products.
4. Enforcing publicity of Geographical Indications and trademark for agricultural products and furthering people understands to Geographical Indications
With the instruction of CTMO, China Trademark Association and China High School Students (a newspaper) jointly sponsored a nation-wide trademark knowledge competition and an essay competition among Chinese high school students. This was an important measure to spread trademark and Geographical Indication knowledge, and publicize the Outline of National Intellectual Property Strategy. The two events attracted some one million Chinese students, collected 230,000 essays, helping them have a much better understandings to trademark and Geographical Indication, and even their hometown and mother country.
Cooperating with China News Agency, CTMO edited a special issue of China News Weekly for introducing Geographical Indication and its function during China National people’s Congress period to the delegates, staff of whole AIC and officials at different levels. Encouraging result came to the Office as the readers had a much further understanding to Geographical Indication, its function in enriching farmers and promoting local economy.
CTMO also opened such columns as China Geographical Indication Introduction, Geographical Indication and Local Economy, My Experience with China Geographical Indication at Contemporary China, China County-Level Economic News, China High-School Students News, to introduce knowledge about Geographical Indication, its history, culture and function in promoting economy, service AIC provided to farmers as well as good examples in Geographical Indication registration.
What is more, SAIC and CTMO websites published latest name lists of the registered Geographical Indications, wishing to increase the transparency of Geographical Indication registration.
