7th Shanghai Book Fair kicks off

SHANGHAI - The Seventh Shanghai Book Fair kicked off on August 11 at Shanghai Exhibition Center.

This year the largest public event in town devoted to reading and books has attracted more than 400 publishing houses nationwide, which will organize lectures, book signing and so on to introduce their authors and promote their latest products.

As the first important event of the fair, the whole sale fair closed at noon yesterday with a total sale of more than 60 million yuan, three times of last year.

Most of the books are sold with 20 per cent off the original price.

The fair's daily open time is from 9 am to 6 pm from August 11 to 17 and the close time will be delayed to 9 pm from August 13-15.

Symposiums will also be held during the fair on such issues as digital publication and copyright protection.

Visitors in Shanghai can go to the Book Fair without a ticket as long as he/she can present a valid ID and a ticket to the Expo.

Tickets to the Book Fair can be purchased at door at the price of 10 yuan.
