FUJIANG - The ports of Xiamen and Zhangzhou have been combined into one called Xiamen Port. It will be administered by the Xiamen Port Administrative Bureau. Xiamen Port is tol become an international shipping hub, with priority to international trade container transport and bulk cargo transport.

Zhangzhou's former ports include Gu Lei, Dong Shan, Yun Xiao and Zhao An. There now are 12 ports under the Port of Xiamen. Large-scale enterprises in Xiamen, Zhangzhou and the Zhangzhou Development Zone will be encouraged to set up major new developments. Yu Weiguo, secretary of the Xiamen Municipal Committee, said this allows efficient use of resources.

In 2006, the Zhangzhou ports of Zhao Yin, Hou Shi and Shi Ma had been merged into Xiamen Port. Fujian will gradually develop the Dong Du harbor districts to handle international passenger liners, passenger transport toward Taiwan, and high-end shipping services.
