SHANGHAI - Dazhong Transportation presented 500,000 yuan to the Shanghai Charity Foundation on Wednesday as donation to help survivors of the deadly fire which broke out in the city's downtown areas on November 15.
The blaze has killed at least 53 people and injured about 70 people who are receiving treatment at local hospitals, of whom 15 are in a critical condition.
The donation came from part of the daily sales of its 28,000 employees, said Yang Guoping, chairman of Shanghai Dazhong Transportation Group.
Yang said the company will advocate its employees to continue making donations to the survivors through its interior network.
Meanwhile, he said, it will make a safety check of its 18,000 taxis and logistics vehicles, six holiday inns and property projects to rule out potential dangers.
Dazhong has been active in donations to help people in disaster areas out of difficulties. To date, it has donated 6 million yuan to helping build Taziba Middle School in Doujiangyan, Sichuan province, and 1 million to Yushu, Qinghai province and Zhouqu, Gansu province to help survivors.
