SHANGHAI – China Cleaning Industry Alliance was set up in the city on Wednesday to push forward the development of the country's cleaning industry and help upgrade people's cleaning awareness.

The alliance was launched by China Clean Expo, Shanghai Indoor Environment Cleaning Industry Association and Shanghai Food Association with dozens of cleaning enterprises as its first batch of members.

"The move aims to step up the expansion of China's fast-growing cleaning industry," said Song Zhe, project director of China Clean Expo.

China now has about 5,000 producers and sales agents of cleaning products with more than 6 million employees to create annual output value of 320 billion yuan. The industry is developing fast at an annual increase rate of 25 per cent, said Song.

"But it is still at the initial stage of development with most enterprises relying heavily on overseas technologies for their production," he said.

"Reinforced effort should be made to develop new products with own intellectual property rights. Only thus, can the industry have a favourable environment for its sustained development," said Song who is also deputy general manager of Shanghai UBM Sinoexpo International Exhibition Co Ltd.

The alliance will take measures to raise people's awareness of cleaning and provide a platform for enterprises to exchange technologies and innovate cleaning products, he said.

A clean expo is scheduled to open at the Shanghai New International Expo Center on March 29, 2011 to echo the establishment of the alliance.

"Preparations for the expo are under way to provide advanced solutions for the industries of auto, food, beverage, pharmacy and electronics," Song said.
