Lan Kwai Fong opened its only branch outside Hong Kong in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, on Wednesday.

Covering 43,000 square meters, Chengdu Lan Kwai Fong is 18 times as big as the one in Hong Kong, according to Lan Kwai Fong Group Chairman Allan Zeman.

Currently, 60 per cent of businesses in Chengdu Lan Kwai Fong are from Chengdu. In addition to bars and clubs, they specialize in restaurants and high-end stores dealing in red wine, cigars and clothing.

Zeman said he would very much like Lan Kwai Fong to integrate into the local culture in Chengdu. So Chengdu Lan Kwai Fong has teahouses and Sichuan hot pot.

He felt the key to success in Chengdu Lan Kwai Fong should be that people come here to feel it is really Chengdu's Lan Kwai Fong, and not elsewhere.

Zeman said he initially did not even know what it was like in Chengdu, and later he found it was really a city of culture, and its people knew how to enjoy life.

If they earn 12 yuan, they can spend 10 yuan, he said.
