JINAN - At least one villager was killed and six others injured in a scuffle with builders from a Singapore-invested dairy farm project in east China's Shandong Province, officials of the local government said Wednesday.

The fight erupted at about 4 pm Monday among a number of villagers in Guangrao County of Dongying City and the contractor of the dairy farm solely funded by a Singapore investing group, Guangrao's information office said in a statement.

One villager died later in hospital due to his critical injuries and six others suffered wounds, but are in stable condition, said the statement.

However, the government and police refused to offer details about the incident, saying the cause will be made public after the investigation is completed.
