Road accident kills five in east China

HANGZHOU - Five people were killed and two injured in a road accident Saturday in east China's Zhejiang Province, local authorities said.

The accident happened about 11:50 am in Kaihua County when a Shanghai-registered bus collided head-on with a sedan carrying seven people aboard, including the driver, the county's publicity department said in a statement.

Two people onboard the sedan died on the spot while three others died later in hospital.

The last two people from the sedan were injured and were hospitalized, according to the officials.

Fate of the sedan driver is not immediately known.

When the accident took place, there were only two drivers aboard the bus, which was bound for Jiangxi Province, and neither of them was injured.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
