Around 300 experts and professionals including 38 member representatives from 18 countries and regions in the world got together today in Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), to join the CIUTI Forum 2011, the annual conference of International Permanent Conference of University Institutes of Translators and Interpreters (CIUTI), jointly undertaken by the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation of BFSU and Translators Association of China.
"The education of translation has a short history in China, however, with rapid development. High-quality and –level talents in transcultural sector are needed for boosting inter-exchanges among different cultures,” said Hao Ping, vice minister of China's Ministry of Education. President of Translators Association of China Li Zhaoxing and Under-Secretary-General for General Assembly and Conference Management of the UN Mr Shaaban M. Shaaban also attended the forum.
The CIUTI Forum 2011, one of major events in the field of translation and interpretation in China, is themed economic development and the function of professional services in translation and interpretation.
As a professional association to advance the development in translation and interpretation around the globe, the CIUTI was founded in 1961. The Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation of BFSU participated in that association in May, 2008, which became the first member in China.
