Visitors to the Wenjiang district of Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan province, are impressed with a myriad of folk customs on display on its Wenmiao Square.

They include the making of the crisp candy and sugar painting and the performance of the Sichuan Opera on the spot, drawing both interested local residents and visitors, according to organizers of the Third International Festival of Intangible Cultural Heritage being held in Chengdu.

The activities being held in Wenjiang are part of the festival, they said.

Located in western Sichuan, Wenjiang boasts 17 customs on the list of China's intangible cultural heritage at different levels.
