Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan province, exported 2.42 million tablet personal computers in the first five months of this year.
It is expected to export more than 20 million units in the whole year, according to the city's bureau of commerce.
The sharp increase in exports is due to the operation of the Taiwan-invested Hongfujing Company in the Chengdu High-tech Zone this year, according to sources from the bureau.
In the first five months of this year, Chengdu's exports registered US$6.4 billion, up 8 percent over the same period last year. Its exports of computer and communication technology products amounted to US$1.1 billion, an increase of almost 1,334 percent over the same period last year.
Much of the increase in the exports of computers is from the Hongfujing Company, bureau sources said.
