XI'AN - Two people died and 41 others were injured in a pileup that involved 11 vehicles on an expressway in northwest China's Shaanxi Province Saturday, police and witnesses said Sunday.
The accident happened at around 1 pm in Tongchuan City, on an interprovincial expressway linking Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in the north with Guangdong Province in the south, a local traffic police officer said.
Witnesses said it was raining and the road was slippery when the accident happened.
The pileup caused a standstill in the Tongchuan section of the expressway. Traffic resumed at 8 pm.
Police said a man and a woman died, but did not reveal their identities.
