Ecological development meeting opens in SW China

An international conference aimed at pushing forward a win-win situation between developing modern industrialization and establishing ecological civilizations opened Saturday in Guiyang, Southwest China’s Guizhou province.
CPPCC National Committee Chairman Jia Qinglin sent an instruction expecting the conference to play a more significant role in constructing a savings-oriented society and environment-friendly country through discussions.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also sent a congratulatory letter that identified the meeting as “the impetus boosting low-carbon activities throughout the world.”
More than 600 government officials and international scientists, including Zheng Wantong and Dong Jianhua, vice-chairmen of the National Committee of the CPPCC, were going to attend the 11 main forums at the conference.
The conference, jointly held by several ministries including the Ministry of Environmental Protection, will go through the weekend.
