China’s Yunnan Baiyao toothpaste has been ranked 5th in the country’s most popular products, according to a report by the Nikkei BP Research Institute.

The ‘China Popular Product Top 25’ report was based on the sales volume of the product’s growth momentum, the time when the brand first showed up with a generalized assessment over its influence on people’s life.

The top five brand products were Sina Weibo, China’s most popular social network with 140 million users at number one. Apple’s iPhone ranked second thanks to its popularity with teens. The Chinese version of Groupon took third place with its 20 billion market share value and the Chinese made comics Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf ranked fourth.

Yunnan Baiyao toothpaste has witnessed increasing popularity with consumers since first being listed in 2005. Sales hit 1.2 billion in 2010, turning it into the first major toothpaste brand on the mainland.

Yunnan Baiyao’s rise reflects China’s local brand’s market value and high social recognition. That is also an assurance to Yunnan enterprises.

Nikkei BP was established on April, 1969, affiliated to Japanese Nihon Keizai Shimbun Group which is the world largest integrate inform institution with its business information release.
