HEFEI - It looks like an ordinary school office. It has an area less than 20 square meters, three desks with computers stand in the office, a printer prints necessary materials, phones ring from time to time, and two bookcases stand in the corner, full of various training books.
It seems no different from others offices in the school - busy and orderly. However, this is the office of Anhui Model Base of Copyright Education, which is located in University of Science and Technology of China (USTC).
With great curiosity, I went to the office to know more details. The training base has made many contributions in personnel training, academic research and spreading awareness of IPR protection to the public. The circumstances were still not well-known to the public. Professor Song Wei, the head of training base, gave me a detailed introduction that answered all my inquisitive questions.
"Yes, from its appearance, it’s just an ordinary office. Some staffs even can’t work full-time here; they have to undertake other teaching or research work."
This made me more confused. This Model Base, which has made tremendous contributions, even didn’t have a decent meeting-room and discussion room.
"USTC never pursue for luxury and ostentation; it is the practical, serious and realistic work style that we are pursuing for," Prof. Song said.
"Anhui Model Base of Copyright Education was co-founded by USTC and Anhui Copyright Bureau. School of Public Affairs (SPA) of USTC is responsible for its management. In the teaching, research and popularization of copyright, we have three interdependent and powerful teams to support the training base," Song said. "First of all, the base relies on USTC’s copyright research faculties. They are a group of professors and associated professors who have been working in this field for a long time and have achieved outstanding results. Secondly, Anhui Copyright Bureau’s administrative enforcement and management team really helps a lot. These administrative staffs all have rich practical experience on copyright management. Last but not least, SPA of USTC has a large amount of Master and PhD graduate students in related fields. They undertake the duty to prompt copyright protection the public. With the supporting of this trinity and nation’s great promotion, the achievement in our training base is totally logical."
The training base was founded in 2009, Prof. Song Wei said, and has carried out large amounts of work in personnel training, copyright academic exchange and social popularization. In the past two years, the base has launched various activities, such as copyright education reports in universities, network copyright knowledge competition, copyright judicial training programs, digital copyright seminar, and forefront international lectures. These diverse activities had very positive effects on promotion and served the society, which has been highly praised by the Nation Copyright Administration. Recently approved by the Nation Copyright Administration, the Anhui Model Base of Copyright Education has upgraded to National Model Base of Copyright Education, specializing in copyright education and popularization.
While watching the brand of the training base again, I suddenly realized how many efforts they have made. Prof. Song said "although our efforts gradually turn into outcomes, I feel more responsibility and pressures. With the support of the public, our training base has enough confidence to promote the comprehensive development in regional economic, cultural, scientific and social undertakings."
