Chengdu ranks fourth in China in air transport

In the first nine months, Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport had 165,191 planes taking off and landing, which carried 21.7899 million passengers, 804,000 more than Shenzhen Airport, and loaded 344,300 tons cargoes and mail, 11,700 tons more than Shanghai Hongqiao Airport. This makes Chengdu the fourth largest in city aviation transportations. Chengdu remains leading the second camp of Chinese airports.

New record high

In September, Chengdu airport had 19,523 planes taking off and landing, up 11.8 percent over the same period of last year. The passenger throughput amounted to 2.6195 million, up 18.9 percent year on year. The cargo and mail throughput reached 45,800 tons, up 8.2 percent year on year. As shown in single day performances of September, Chengdu airport had the maximum of 694 planes transporting 101,800 passengers.

Meanwhile, statistics show that in the first nine months, Chengdu airport had 165,191 planes taking off and landing, which carried 21.7899 million passengers and 344,300 cargoes and mail. They made new record highs in the number of planes taking off and landing, passenger delivery, and cargo and mail transportation, following similar practices the first eight months.

Lead the school camp

In the first nine months, the first camp of Chinese airports, the Beijing Capital International Airport, Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, Shanghai Pudong Airport, and Shanghai Hongqiao Airport, transported passengers by 59.177 million, 33.436 million, 31.2964 million, and 24.8593 million, respectively.

In the same period, the second camp airports, Shenzhen Bao'an Airport and Kunming Wujiaba Airport, delivered passengers by 20.9855 million and 16,6321 million respectively. Following the performances in August to surpass Shenzhen counterpart in cumulative passenger throughput, Chengdu airport remained to lead the second camp with 21.7899 million passengers.

In terms of cargo and mail transportations, in the first nine months, Chengdu airport transported 344,300 tons, the fifth largest following Beijing Capital International Airport (1.1823 million tons), Shanghai Pudong Airport (2.333 million tons), Guangzhou Baiyun Airport (860,000 tons), and Shenzhen Bao’an Airport (609,500 tons).

New record in October

During the National Day holidays in October, Chengdu airport transported 626,000 passengers, up 9.3 percent year on year. It averaged 89,000 passengers per day. For the first time, Chengdu airport broke the line of transporting 100,000 passengers in a day in the period.

Statistics show that in the first nine months, Chengdu airport realized 7.2 percent growth in the number of planes taking off and landing. The passenger throughput soared by 12.6 percent, and cargo and mail transportation went up by 9.2 percent. Due to the good beginning of the week-long holidays, Chengdu airport is expected to make new record high in the three indexes in October.
