The planning of the Chengdu Tianfu New Area, a large area consisting of part of Chengdu and the neighboring areas for the development of mondern manufacturing and service industries, has been approved by the Sichuan provincial government.

According to the just-approved planning, the Tianfu New Area will be made an international modern new urban district suitable for manufacturing, business and living with its focuses on the modern manufacture and high-end service industries.

The area covers 37 towns and the seven neighboring counties (cities/districts) of three cities, with the total area of 1,578 square kilometers.

The Tianfu New Area consists of the Chengdu High-Tech Development Zone (southern zone), Chengdu Economic and Technological Development Zone, Shuangliu Economic Development Zone in Chengdu, Pengshan Economic Development Zone, the Shigao Economic Development Zone in Renshou County and the neighboring areas of the Longquan Lake, the Longquan Mountains and the Sancha Lake.

The goal of the ambitious planning of the Tianfu New Area, aState-level economic development zone, is to promote the integration of the pan-Chengdu areas in order to create an international modern new urban district.
