On Dec 27, 2011, a celebration for the 30th anniversary of the Montpellier-Chengdu sister city relations was hosted in Chengdu, Sichuan province.

Perla Danan, the deputy mayor of Montpellier arrived in Chengdu to attend this event. Zhang Ningsheng, vice chairman of the Chengdu People's Political Consultative Conference, addressed the ceremony.

Zhang congratulated the anniversary on behalf of the Chengdu municipal government. She said Chengdu and Montpellier established friendly relations in France, 1981, and has since gained rewarding achievements for the past 30 years.

The sister cities have maintained students exchanges, deepened cooperation in medical and education sectors, and made efforts to expand cultural, tourist, and economic trade relations.

Chengdu is implementing an international modern garden city and a famed cultural capital, providing more opportunities for the cooperation of both sides.

The Chengdu municipal government will continue to support exchanges between the two cities and is committed to developing lasting friendships between the two cultures.
