Chengdu, the provincial capital of Sichuan province, will carry out a "Half-Hour Transportation Plan" in the next few years. According to the plan, the travel time between the Chengdu downtown and outskirt county will take no more than 30 minutes.

This plan was announced during a work planning meeting that discussed the development of the city districts and counties. To achieve the goal, two fast transportation systems will be implemented. One is a fast roads system, and the other is the fast public transportation system.

The fast roads system is composed of three ring roads and 16 radioactive fast roads, which connect the 19 functional districts in the center city.

For the fast public transportation system, the government is considering developing multiple transportation means. This includes improving road traffic services and establishing a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. The BRT system can provide quality service similar to rail transit while enjoying the low costs and flexibility of bus transit.

According to Zhang Qiao, director of the city's Municipal planning Bureau, the completion of the two fast systems will ensure the travel time within the center city or between the center city and counties will only be half an hour.

On the agenda for 2012 is the construction of two radioactive roads, one ring road, and fast transportation on the 2nd Ring Road.
