Dalian will hold the first seafood festival this summer, an official with the city's tourism administration said.
"Dalian has 2,211 kilometers of coastline, about 10 percent of China's total coastline. Coasts, bays, islands and seafood are the natural endowments and precious tourism resources for Dalian," said Yi Jun, director of the Dalian Tourism Administration.
The seafood of this northeastern city, including trepang (sea cucumber), abalone, sea urchin, and scallop, are famous around China. By hosting the seafood festival, the city aims to attract more people to enjoy the delicious seafood.
According to Yi, the seafood festival is preliminarily scheduled to be held after the annual China (Dalian) International Beer Festival, which will be held in July.
Dalian is a city of festivals, said Yi. Every year, it hosts more than 20 festival-themed activities, including the firework and lantern show during the Spring Festival, the International Walking Festival in May, the Cherry Festival in June, and the International Fashion Festival in September.
