A free clinic, organized by the Shaanxi Women's Federation, was held in Huxian, a county of Shaanxi, as a celebration of International Women's Day.

On March 2, fifteen hospitals from Xi'an and Huxian took part in the free clinic.

Thousands of women and children from Huxian came to the clinic in search of medical advice. Though the clinics were crowded with people waiting in long lineups, the doctors calmly counseled each patient.

Duan Zhijin, director of the Women's Federation of Dongtun village in Huxian, came to the clinic early that morning with the women from her village. It was the first time she had taken part in such large-scale free clinic.

"Women from our village don't take care of their health very well and it is inconvenient to go to hospital. This is such a good chance for women to gain free medical advice. We hope that this kind of activity will continue in the future," she said excitedly.

Liu Lige, head of the Shaanxi Women's Federation, thanked the 15 hospitals for their charity. She said that Shaanxi Women's Federation has paid a great deal of attention to the interest of women and children's health. "The free clinic today is a part of our plan to spread health knowledge to the women and improve their quality of life."

According to Jing Jianping, vice-chairman of the Shaanxi Women's Federation, the free clinic will be continued after International Women's Day. She also encouraged more people to take part in the activity so that it profits as many women as possible.
