A large-scale performance, including a chorus and sitcoms, was held on Sunday in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, to celebrate the International Women's Day that falls on March 8.

The performance was held to celebrate women who have made great contributions to China's revolution and society.

"I hope women can improve themselves, strengthen their skills and make a new image of modern women," said Hu Yue, member of Shaanxi provincial standing committee.

The award Outstanding Women of Shaanxi Culture was presented to women from all walks of life in the province.
