"Fortune" Magazine boosts Chengdu as hub of western China

Fortune Magazine and the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government held a press conference to announce in Beijing that Chengdu will host the Fortune Global Forum on June 6-8, 2013. Chengdu will be the first city in Western China to host the forum.

Chengdu can lay claim to have the largest GDP in the western region that is registering the fastest economic growth in the nation.

The forum symbolizes win-win cooperation. The city has every reason to believe the 12th Fortune Global Forum will be successful.

The forum is considered the most direct window for knowing the trends of the global economy. In GDP rankings of Chinese cities that were released recently, Chengdu ranks as one of the top ten cities.

In a recent report of the “12th Five-Year” Plan for Western Development, the State Council indicated that Chengdu will developed into a strategic high ground for the inland economy.

As a driver of large-scale development in the western region, Chengdu possesses powerful innovations, unique cultural ethos, rich experiences with international conferences and good government services.

Since the initiation of development in 2000, western China holdss much potential for the world.

As a bellwether of provincial capitals in the western region, Chengdu has achieved much. According to data, Chengdu realized a 15 percent GDP growth rate in 2010 and 685.46 billion yuan of GDP and 15.2 percent GDP growth rate in 2011, much higher than the national average.

Chengdu has transformed into a benchmark city, called the “fourth pole” of national economic development.

Chengdu enjoys recognition as an innovative city. In 2010, Chengdu received approval by the Ministry of Science and Technology as one of the first national innovation-based pilot cities, the only city in western China to win this honor.

The 2011 Annual Report of China Urban Competitiveness written by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences states that the city ranks first in the western region in terms of science and technology competitiveness.

Chengdu is also “the best tourist city in China” and “an excellent tourist destination in the world.” It has been dubbed the “Land of Abundance”, “World Food City” recognized by UNESCO and “the Happiest City in China.”

Another significant factor would be that Chengdu is famous city for conventions in the country.”.

The city hosted the 12th Western China International Fair.

Additionally, a good and efficient government serves as another important factor.

In the “China 50 Emerging Cities” report published by Jones Lang LaSalle, Chengdu was honored as the “top runner” among tier-1.5 cities.

Fortune already held forums in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Beijing.

The theme of the forum is “New Future of China.”
