Li Yuanchao, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Secretariat of the Central Committee and the minister of the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CPC visited the National Institute of Biological Sciences in Beijing on April 17, 2012. He encouraged the institute to set up more scientific research platforms that conform to common international practices to attract world-class talents for the construction of an innovative country.
Since the setup of the National Institute of Biological Sciences in Beijing seven years ago, it has tried out scientific research management and running systems with international practices, and has attracted high-level overseas returnee talents. At present, 27 labs have been built, with young scientists coming back from overseas as directors.
In total, there are more than 180 articles published in core journals at home and abroad. Among the articles, 23 were published in Nature, Science Magazine or Cell. In 2012, four research members in the institute won the "Howard Hughes Medical Institute International Award for Young Scientists".
Li Yuanchao visited four labs and carefully listened to the suggestions of scientists, getting detailed information on the scientific research work situation. He said the construction and development of the institute paved a new way for deepening the reformation of our national scientific research and talent management system. It also strengthened the exploration of basic science research. The institute will continue to optimize scientific research mechanisms, introducing more talents from overseas and making more world-class achievements in hopes of building a first-rate scientific research organization.
