ART SANYA exhibition opens on December 28

On Dec 10, the ART•SANYA exhibition organizing committee held a press conference in the Holiday Inn Beijing Deshengmen to introduce activities that would be held. Xu Zhenling, vice-mayor of Sanya, Chen Guangfa, deputy director of Sanya literary style Bureau, Tang Sixi, deputy director of Sanya Tourism Development Board, Zhao Huashan, chairman of Arima Group, notable artists Li Xiaolin and Huanggang, art critics Liu Chun, exhibition planner Fang Min’er and HIHEY.com operations director, attended the conference.

ART•SANYA is a large-scale contemporary art exhibition scheduled to be held in Sanya, Hainan that highlights new features of Chinese contemporary art, which has become a platform for communication between contemporary Chinese artists and their audience. Sanya is creating a permanent brand for contemporary Chinese art to promote its international influence.

The exhibition will be the first activity organized by ART•SANYA. The opening ceremony will be held on Dec 28 when world-renowned contemporary artists - Fang Lijun, Yue Minjun – are expected to attend. The exhibition covers an area of about 30,000 square meters and will last until March 31, 2013. More than 400 works, including paintings, sculptures; installations, images and behavior art will be selected to go on display.

The ART•SANYA art season will feature a realistic oil painting exhibition, China Cutting-edge Artists Exhibition (CCAE), group exhibition for local artists, solo exhibition for notable artists including Xuesong, Li Xiaolin, Chen Yiming, Huanggang, Ligang, and commemoration exhibition of Zhang Daqian.

ART•SANYA art season will also host art forums, lectures, genius award selection and ceremony for talented artists, ART•SANYA Party and a contemporary artwork auction.

As one of the most important tourism cities in the country, Sanya is known as “the oriental Hawaii” and “Sunshine City” for its special tropical scenery and attractive natural landscapes. The art exhibition provides an opportunity for the city to establish its unique brand similar to the Venice Biennale. Sanya is combining culture and tourism together, as a place where global artists can appreciate Chinese contemporary art.

It will be held in Yalong Bay, Sanya. Works will go on display both indoors and outdoors to give the audience a visual impact. ART•SANYA is confident the exhibition will be a tremendous success.
