This year's Fortune Global Forum will be held in southwestern China's Chengdu city, capital of Sichuan province, between June 6 and 8. The city has been preparing for the event since it won the bid.
The efforts include reconstructing roads and streets, cleaning up rivers and lakes, planting trees and grass, and upgrading hotels and convention centers. The city aims to present a better appearance for the Fortune Global Forum.
In addition, the local government has approved 900 new buses and 800 taxis for the city's public transportation, according to a government meeting on Jan 24. Local government leaders called for participation and support from officials as well as citizens.
Bilingual service will be required for public service departments such as police, traffic, commerce, healthcare, tourism and telecommunication. Bilingual signs will also be in use at public places.
More than 15,000 people, of whom 85.5 percent have a bachelor's degree or above, have submitted volunteer applications. The city plans to recruit 800 to 1,000 volunteers to serve the forum.
Chengdu also sent invitations to 404 leading foreign enterprises and 213 domestic ones to present the event. Over 60 Fortune 500 enterprises from abroad have confirmed their participation.
Preparation work is scheduled to conclude by the end of May 2013.
