Mobile Internet conference attracts hundreds to Chengdu

The seventh Sichuan Mobile Internet Conference held in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, attracts over 1,000 participants.

The seventh Sichuan Mobile Internet Conference, sponsored by Chengdu High-Tech Development Zone, was held in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, on July 20.

The annual event, which serves as a platform for local mobile Internet practitioners to exchange thoughts and ideas, explore markets and integrate the industrial chain, focuses on the most promising development direction of the province's mobile Internet industry.

This year's conference brought together over 1,000 participants around the theme of "Mobile Games in Chengdu".

"The mobile industry in Chengdu has been developing very fast since last year. The city is now among the first-tier cities in mobile industry development along with Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen," said Tony Ho, vice-president of 91 Wireless, a top app store in China.

Tony said he was impressed by the efficient service in Chengdu High-Tech Zone and the pioneering spirit of Chengdu Tianfu Software Park.

"The mobile game developers in Chengdu gather together and provide a wide variety of products, which makes the city quite appealing to mobile game distributors," he said.

The high-tech zone has gathered more than 200 mobile game developers, according to Fu Xuekun, deputy director of the zone. Fu said the zone has carried out a series of policies to support mobile Internet practitioners, including 1 billion yuan ($163 million) in financial support.

Wang Jialun, director of IT Teahouse, a famous forum on IT development, said the mobile game industry in Chengdu is stepping into a "blowout era" as more and more outstanding enterprises and developers move to the city.

China Mobile Games and Entertainment Group (CMGE), the only domestic mobile game company listed on the Nasdaq stock market, has recently established a wholly-owned subsidiary in Chengdu. The subsidiary will be the fourth releasing base and third research and development base of CMGE, said Ying Shuling, a senior executive of the group.
