More than 14.4 million netizens voted online for China's top ecological city through the 2013 Chinese City Ranking: Promote Ecological Balance in China event, organized by China Radio International.
The event started in May and lasted until the end of July.
Roughly 79 percent of voters came from overseas.
The top 10 ecological cities are Guiyang, Weihai, Xiamen, Chengde, Beihai, Xichang, Yingtan, Argun, Zixing and Baoting.
The event was initiated in 2010 and has been held for the last three years. Each year features a different theme, including tourism, climate and innovation. Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou province, is always a pioneer in ecology. The first national-level forum on ecological construction was held in Guiyang on July 16. President Xi Jinping highly praised the forum as it concentrates on the international community's common concern of building an eco-civilization.
