2009 is the Year of the Ox in the Chinese lunar calendar. The mascot is designed based on the ox and represents a rich harvest. In Chinese tradition, the ox represents diligence, selflessness and hard work.
The mascot is named "Qingqing". It celebrates the 60th anniversary of the founding of China and also the 19th beer festival, which both occur in the same year.
The mascot seeks to convey the spirit, energy and fearlessness of the ox.
