Shaanxi county aims for a boost in tourism

Chenggu county in Hanzhong, Shaanxi province in Northwest China, is counting on its rich historical relics and mandarin farms for a boost in a tourism industry.
With the arrival of the autumn, the golden fruits in the county's mandarin orchards have received a large number of tourists from other parts of Shaanxi and neighboring provinces.
In recently years, the county invested some 268 million yuan ($43.8 million) to construct more tourism facilities, including mandarin orchards, Nansha Lake and the memorial of Zhang Qian (164 – 114 BC), a famous explorer, traveler and diplomat of Western Han Dynasty (202 BC– 9 AD).
The tourism industry contributed 3 percent to the county's GDP and produced 530 million yuan in revenue over the past 6 years.
