Tianjin University recently initiated an APEC plan to promote a low carbon model town.
The plan, known as the APEC China Year 2014 and Low Carbon Model Town World Campaign, has already organized more than 20 science and research institutes and enterprises and 50 experts to assess Shenzhen as an "International Low Carbon City".
The plan will assess all 25 low carbon projects in China in the future and help them meet the low carbon standard set up by the National Energy Administration.
The plan covers various aspects of the city's low carbon development – including urban design, R&D of low carbon technology, index system design and low carbon finance. The plan will assess high quality projects proposed by local administrations and promote the development of qualified projects.
The plan was drafted by the research center for sustainable energy at Tianjin University, the organizing body of the APEC Low Carbon Model Town World Campaign project and the project's key promoter. The center aims to provide a cooperative platform for official, industrial and academic organizations to plan and apply China's national energy development strategies.
