The number of hosts of the ICIF witnessed an increase again in 2009. The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade joined the ICIF as one of the hosts. The domestic and international resources of the ICIF were further integrated.

The fifth ICIF opened in the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center on May 15, 2009.

Liu Yandong, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee; Li Wuwei, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee; Jiao Li, vice-minister of the CPC Publicity Department; Ou Yangjian, vice-minister of the Ministry of Culture; Wang Chao, assistant minister of the Ministry of Commerce; Tian Jin, vice-director of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television; Li Dongdong, vice-director of the General Administration of Press and Publication; Wan Jifei, chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade; Wang Yang, secretary-general of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee; Huang Huahua, governor of the Guangdong provincial government; and Liu Yupu, secretary-general of the Shenzhen municipal committee, were on hand at the fifth ICIF’s opening ceremony and visited the main exhibition halls.

The fifth ICIF set up 30 sub-venues. A total of 1,708 governmental delegations, organizations and enterprises from 28 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, as well as 56 countries and regions, attended the fair. The total turnover reached 88.07 billion yuan ($14.1 billion). The amount of professional visitors reached 234,700, and the overseas professional visits hit 56,800.
