Led by the CPC Publicity Department, the Coordinating Leaders Team for the ICIF was set up in January 2010. The team formed an organization mechanism so the ICIF would be directed and hosted by the ministries, coordinated by the related department of the Shenzhen municipal government, and organized by companies such as Shenzhen International Cultural Industry Fair Co, incorporating the quality resources of various industries and sectors of the Chinese cultural industries into the ICIF and greatly increasing the exhibitors’ quality.

In May 13, the Development Plan (2010 – 2020) of the China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair was officially issued, further confirming the target and direction of the ICIF’s future development.

The sixth ICIF was opened in the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center on May 14, 2010.

Liu Yunshan, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, secretary-general of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, and head of the CPC Publicity Department; Bai Lichen, vice-chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee; Sun Zhijun, vice-minister of the CPC Publicity Department; Yang Zhijin, vice-minister of the Ministry of Culture; Wang Chao, assistant minister of the Ministry of Commerce; Tian Jin, deputy director of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television; Jiang Jianguo, deputy director of General Administration of Press and Publication; Wan Jifei, chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade; Wang Yang, secretary-general of the Guangdong provincial Party committee; Huang Huahua, governor of the Guangdong provincial government; Wang Rong, secretary-general of the Shenzhen municipal Party committee; and Xu Qin, mayor of Shenzhen, attended the opening ceremony.

The sixth ICIF had 35 sub-venues. Nationwide exhibitors from 31 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions, as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, attended the fair. It was the first time the fair achieved the “wholeness” of governmental delegations. The number of exhibitors reached 1,797, and 10,860 overseas buyers from 86 countries, including the United States, France, Japan and Canada, were invited to the fair. The total turnover reached 108.86 billion yuan ($17.43 billion).

After inspecting the sixth ICIF and the achievements of China’s cultural reform, Li Changchun encouraged that the hosts of the ICIF learn from the experience and further improve the exhibition organization and service system to raise the exhibition brand. More effort should be devoted in building the ICIF into a window of cultural achievements, a engine of cultural development and a platform of cultural export.
