Security equipment firm leading worldwide industry

(China Daily) Updated: 2014-09-11 09:32

After the Sept 11 terrorist attack in 2001, as the world's security inspections tightened, attention shifted to the industry and opportunities to develop products in the field opened up.

Nuctech, a leading supplier of security inspection solutions, grasped these opportunities and made great strides in its business development.

The company's products have been sold to more than 130 countries and regions and are widely used in civil aviation, customs and urban subway and railway systems, according to Li Zhijun, vice president of Nuctech.

More than 75 percent of European countries have purchased Nuctech's products and the company accounts for 80 percent of the African market and 50 percent of the Latin American market, said Li.

"We have placed a focus on helping customs departments check containers to combat smuggling and intercept dangerous goods, such as nuclear materials and weapons," he said.

The company claimed 23.9 percent of the global container inspection market shares in 2011, 24.2 percent in 2012 and 25.1 percent in 2013. It was ranked first worldwide for three consecutive years, according to the IHS, an independent global information company based in the United States.

"Nuctech has also paid special attention to aviation safety and has developed cutting-edge equipment to inspect passengers, personal and registered luggage and cargo," said Li.

With 17 years of experience under its belt, the company stands out from its competitors in Europe and the US, thanks to its continued scientific innovation efforts and well-developed after-sales services.

Advantage

"Unlike some of our competitors who outsource the production of certain parts of their security inspection systems, Nuctech has independently developed almost every part and component of its security inspection system, which makes it more flexible to custom-made services" said Li.

The company has experts stationed in its Beijing headquarters to solve customer problems and has established a global service network, according to Li.

"We have sent Chinese technicians to develop overseas branches and trained local technicians to grasp core technologies, which enables on-site services for our foreigner customers," said Li.

Strong intellectual support has also played an important role in helping the company establish itself in the market.

The company established a strategic cooperation with Tsinghua University, one of China's top universities specializing in science and technology, and set up a joint research center.

It maintains contact with international experts to track the latest technical developments worldwide and develops technologies to meet customer's ever-changing demands, according to Li.

These efforts have helped Nuctech land orders from large-scale international firms and for high-level events and meetings.

During the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Nuctech provided approximately 600 pieces of inspection equipment for 11 of the 12 World Cup stadiums across Brazil.

"The timely delivery of products at short notice and the steady performance of the security inspection systems at the World Cup helped reinforce Nuctech's position in the global market," said Li.

The company provided nine sets of security inspection equipment for the sixth BRICS summit in Brazil's Fortaleza and nine sets for the celebration ceremony in Brasilia for the 40th anniversary of the establishment of China-Brazil relations.

The company raked in 2.78 billion yuan ($451.7 million) in total income in 2013 and contributed 323 million yuan in tax.

Its sales revenue is expected to break 3 billion yuan in 2014, according to Li.

To date, Nuctech has developed more than 160 security inspection products, from X-ray imaging to radiation detection.

It has provided more than 3,000 sets of security inspection products for major events, including the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the Shanghai World Expo in 2010 and the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games.
