Large-scale power transmission enters a new era

A 1,000-kilowatt ultra-high voltage AC power transmission and transformation project from Xilin Gol League to Shandong was under intense construction as of Nov 5, injecting vitality to Xilin Gol League in winter.

“I’ve worked for more than 20 years. It’s not easy to flatten the field in a month,” said Zhang Xingwang, a project manager at the construction site.

The project was approved in July and is one of the first among the 12 major ultra-high voltage power channels that began construction. It marked a new era for large-scale power transmission in Inner Mongolia and would play a significant role in boosting the region’s power industry development.

Upgrade comprehensive energy utilization

Wang Jun, Party committee secretary, and Shu Yinbiao, general manager of State Grid Corp, held talks in Hohhot on July 22. Both sides reached a consensus on speeding up power grid development in the east of Inner Mongolia, and stressed that all parties should speed up ultra-high voltage grid construction to offer more reliable energy support for the region’s economic and social development. The region will fully support the ultra-high voltage grid construction and create a favorable external environment and conditions.

The first of its kind, the project between Xilin Gol League and Shandong has received great support from the Xilin Gol League government. Huo Jinbing, head of Duolun county, said that ultra-high voltage project has become a new calling card of Duolun, bringing momentum to local economic development and helping local residents live a quality life.

All governments in Inner Mongolia have actively pushed for the Xilin Gol League-Shandong power channel construction, which plays an important part in not only optimizing the local economic structure, protecting grassland ecological environment and improving people's livelihood, but also improving China’s energy structure and comprehensive utilization, and optimizing air quality in Beijing and East China.
