On Nov 16, at the major projects’ signing ceremony of the 16th High-Tech Fair and speaking tour activities of academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology signed a cooperation agreement about co-building the Shenzhen International Maker Center with Nanshan district. Meanwhile, it also united International Innovation Institute of German Steinbeis University to co-build Steinbeis International Entrepreneur Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences. This aimed to speed up building Shenzhen International Maker Center, broaden its international influence, and attract more international innovative resources.

The Chinese word of “Chuang Ke” originated from the English word “maker”. It refers to a group of people who try to transform creativity into reality without making a profit.

The Maker Center will devote itself to the development and support of entrepreneurs. It relies on a top-ranking innovative education platform and abundant scientific research, and it positively explores deeper and wider cooperation with first-class international innovative educational institutes.

The Maker Center positions itself as “an independent economic entity of public welfare”. It exerts itself to explore the scientific operation and profitability model which is in line with the law of market demand. It also improves its efficient entrepreneur industry chain: it is from entrepreneur or entrepreneur platform to hardware supplier, then to business indicator or crowd funding to the market as well as to consumers.

At the same time, the Steinbeis International Entrepreneur Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences will undertake the due obligations of educating entrepreneurs, innovative communications and being a business incubator.

The deputy head of Nanshan district, Jizhen, and the secretary of the party committee, Bai Jianyuan, signed the agreement to co-build Shenzhen’s International Maker Center.

Regarding the entrepreneurs’ education and development, the Maker Center will import an international advanced entrepreneur educational system, which will enter 150 entrepreneurs per year. In the aspect of entrepreneurs’ communication, the routine academic salon activities are held once every month. And large and medium sized creational communication activities are held five to eight times a year. As for business incubators, there are nearly 30 entrepreneur projects entered into business incubators per year.

At present, Nanshan district, as the base for Shenzhen’s high and new technological industries, has already created leading industrial clusters of high and new technologies, such as computer and communications, Internet, a new generation of information technology, satellite navigation, core components, optical-mechanical-electronic integration, medicine and medical apparatus, as well as new materials and energies. This co-built maker center with its advanced institute which possesses numerous high-tech skills and strong scientific research as well as high breeding ability and ability of business incubator would have an important significance to further enhance scientific and creational ability in Nanshan district.

Additionally, the Children’s Creational Institute in Nanshan district will unveil the name under the institute of the Communist Youth League of Nanshan district committee, education bureau of Nanshan district and Advanced Institute. This will lay a solid foundation for early training of creational talents in Shenzhen.
