A delegation headed by Hanscom Smith, the Consul General at the United States (US) Consulate General in Shanghai, paid a visit to Wuxi, Jiangsu province, on March 9, to discuss bilateral economic relations between China and the US with a particular focus on mutual investments in both the US and East China’s Jiangsu province.

To this end, US Consul General Smith met with Wang Quan, the mayor of Wuxi, the Wuxi Daily reported. According to the paper, Wang briefed the visiting US delegation about the achievements made by the city, especially in the fields of economic development and environmental protection.
He said that the government would encourage more local enterprises to invest in the US and also hoped that more US high-tech companies would start operations in Wuxi. He believed that both parties would benefit from mutual cooperation in such fields as economy, culture, education and technology.
It was the first time that US Consul General in Shanghai Hanscom Smith paid an official visit to Wuxi. After visiting some local enterprises, he praised the sound investment environment in the city and pledged to further facilitate bilateral cooperation between both parties.
